Totally 80’s
Why doesn't anyone come out with a totally 80's cable TV channel?
Since 80's TV shows are far superior to the garbage that's on the air nowadays, I think a totally 80's channel would be a big hit[phpbay] It would include all the sit-coms, all the dramas, cartoons, game shows, and other popular shows[phpbay] When watching it for any length of time, you would think it's the 80's and completely forget it that it's the 2010's[phpbay]
Decade-specific cable channels might be a good idea but there are several things going against such channels[phpbay][phpbay][phpbay]
Attempts to acquire the rights to all of a decade's shows could prove impossible (some have long been withdrawn from syndication while others may be tied up with legal wrangling [i[phpbay]e[phpbay] rights issues] or, in the case of some shows made right up to 1984, lost or destroyed)[phpbay]
The legal clearance bills would be astronomical for certain shows (in the case of the Eighties, the likes of Solid Gold and the original Star Search, the Johnny Carson-era Tonight Show and David Letterman-era Late Night episodes from this decade, the John Davidson-era Hollywood Squares [plus what remains of the final season of the original Peter Marshall version, which ended in 1981] to name a few)[phpbay]
Some early 1980s shows have damaged or low-quality masters that can't be aired without having a restoration effort made to them first (for example: some of the British kid-oriented sci-fi adventure serials featured on Nickelodeon's "The Third Eye" had episodes which were lost, erased or destroyed over the years so recent UK DVD releases of these serials had them patched up with off-the-air videotaped copies)[phpbay] Many of the Filmation cartoons now exist only on PAL videotape masters and have audio speed-up issues which need to be fixed[phpbay]
And finally, there is the issue of the novelty factor which would come with such a channel[phpbay][phpbay][phpbay]if the programming isn't cosistently good and attracts a large enough audience, it might be gone or significantly altered within two or three years[phpbay]
