Each year Halloween fun moves to a new level as parents look for fun yet safe alternatives to going door to door to trick or treat[phpbay] With small children the issues are different than with older children[phpbay] This article is geared to parents with children under ten years old[phpbay] Let us explore five tips for safe trick or treat fun this Halloween[phpbay]
Top Tips:
1[phpbay] Plan your route before hand
2[phpbay] Go with a group of other children
3[phpbay] Have two or more parents with the group at all times
4[phpbay] Lots of Hot Chocolate and Flashlights
5[phpbay] When to munch treats
1[phpbay] Plan your route beforehand sounds like a no-brainer though it's not[phpbay] It's best to drive the route in your car the day before[phpbay] You want to look for several things[phpbay] First of course are obstacles to walking[phpbay] This could be anything from overgrown bushes to actual sidewalk work[phpbay] With this mentioned you want to make sure the route has a sidewalk! Remember Halloween Costumes can be a bit bulky or a tad long and you don't want to spend time with a torn Star War Jedi knight Robe Halloween costume or wet transformers Halloween costume pant legs[phpbay]
Know your route and which streets have great Halloween decorations on display that you and the children will enjoy seeing[phpbay] Bring along a camcorder to record the moment too!
2[phpbay] Go with a group of other children it's best to keep this small less than six but more than two is a good idea as it helps keep your children visible to cars that may be moving up and down the streets[phpbay] On that note, if you have a route that requires driving to the best idea is to park at one end of the route and walk up one side of the street and back down the other[phpbay] It is not safe to drive up the block watching from the car as kids go door to door[phpbay] Often smaller children in their excitement will run out into the street to get to the car[phpbay] Lastly a group is just more fun!
3[phpbay] Have two or more parents with the group so that one can stay back as the group moves from one home to the next[phpbay] At night Halloween Costumes can all look alike and you want to be sure every child remains with your group[phpbay]
4[phpbay] Hey let's face it the parents need to enjoy Halloween too! A great cup of hot chocolate is part of the bargain of going out[phpbay] Also don't forget that there are great Adult Halloween Costumes that you can buy and join in the fun[phpbay] Flashlights allow you to see in any dark areas where street lighting doesn't quite do the trick[phpbay]
5[phpbay] Kids love to sample their Halloween candy[phpbay] The only time they should be allowed to do this is after you arrive home and have to inspect each piece for any open wrappers etc[phpbay] However, there is one time that Halloween treats can be eaten during the walk[phpbay] If you know the person giving the treat out to your child like a trusted neighbor or babysitter's home is a great place to have on your route as they may have something set aside for your child and be expecting to see them in their Halloween Costume[phpbay]
Once the evening of trick or treating is done it's time to sit down and sort the Halloween candy[phpbay] You want to do this with your children so they know how to make sure the treats are safe[phpbay] It's always nice to set a daily amount of candy that a child can have so that their Halloween Holiday experience lasts a bit longer[phpbay]
At the end of the evening it's time to put away your Halloween Costumes and enjoy them for play time memories over the coming months[phpbay]
