R&S'ers have you ever watched True Blood?
It's an HBO show that mirrors the current issues of today but substitutes vampires for homosexuals[phpbay] If you haven't seen the show you should check out this two part news report about vampires in America[phpbay] It actually looks very legitimate[phpbay]

dudeman612, oh wow, that twilight movie was terrible[phpbay] But i tend to go for HBO show even when they are about a played out topic[phpbay] For instance Deadwood was awesome[phpbay]
I do agree with you about the show being geared more towards bigotry than homosexuality[phpbay] I never thought about the whole Muslim thing though, nice find[phpbay]
HBO typically has very deeply thought out shows and I do agree that the Homosexual parallel is just on the surface[phpbay]
It is one of my favorite HBO series, if not the best[phpbay]
Not a christian, however, I DO see the homosexual parallel[phpbay] I made that same link immediately[phpbay]
But as I watched the series more, I noticed, although it is the "christian coalition" (or something like that) on the show that has the Biggest problem with the vampire integration into mainstream society, it is NOT just the Christians who have a problem living amongst VAMPIRES[phpbay] The christians do because Vampires stand for pure evil[phpbay] as a side bar, i do not think the homosexuals would like that parallel any more than blacks liked their plight being compared to the plight to the homosexuals[phpbay] (or to VAMPIRES for that matter!!) That said, If you can look deeper; it is more likely that the "prejudice" is based on the fact that they feed on humans and the long story of that (if HS's have no problem with that comparison[phpbay][phpbay][phpbay][phpbay][phpbay]), BUT really I believe it is more angled towards the (stereotypical) bigotry of southerners[phpbay] There were references to blacks as well as other minorities that southerners supposedly hate[phpbay]
I can't remember the exact examples, but just look at Sookie's friend Tara (her black friend[phpbay] name?) and her constant comments on her "mistreatment" regarding her race[phpbay] (most would see she is not looking at the big picture and looking for the easy excuse[phpbay] Her Mom, etc)
Anyway, I DO see that point as I did in the beginning, but I would say the MAIN point of the show is that everybody, no matter what, should be looked as individuals and not as a group[phpbay]
(and,how do you explain the vampires who do NOT want to "mainstream" and are still VERY vicious[phpbay][phpbay][phpbay]what is the hommosexual angle there?)
I just thought of this; but it may be better associated to muslims and middle easterners really[phpbay][phpbay][phpbay]WDYT?
either way, the parallel may be right[phpbay][phpbay]but I think if that was the MAIN point, it should have could have been better thought out[phpbay]
I like almost ALL HBO series, despite their heavy liberal overtone, and I think generally they are smarter than to make such a parallel, or would make it "safer" and easier for their PR department to explain if necessary[phpbay] HBO shows (series) are generally well made and thought out[phpbay]
Plus their are MANY things that haven't yet been explained such as Sookie's "histroy or ancestry" (never read book series, somaybe you know something I don't?)
I think main point for HBO's purposes is at this point[phpbay][phpbay][phpbay][phpbay]We should ALL be able to get along as long as we look past history and past wrongs[phpbay] THAT would help EVERYBODY[phpbay] (on both sides)
Maybe that is wishfull thinking[phpbay][phpbay][phpbay][phpbay]we all know (or should) that HBO is not known for their "conservative" thinking OR shows[phpbay]
I did not look at links since I've seen every episode AND the directors point and making of, and everything regarding the show on "On demand")[phpbay]
PS- Rome was an exellent show[phpbay] It's cancelation baffled me!!! I guess if theirs no political angle, shows do not last anymore? SAD[phpbay]
