The Vampire bat looks sort of like a pig with fangs and large pointy ears[phpbay] The Vampire bat is about 3 inches long and has a wingspan of about 8 inches[phpbay] It weighs about 1 ounce[phpbay] It has strong legs[phpbay] The Vampire bat has a clawed thumb that comes out of the front edge of the wing[phpbay]
Its coat is dark gray-brown[phpbay] Its mouth has two pointy front teeth[phpbay] It walks by lifting itself up on its hind legs and wrists[phpbay] A thumb claw sticks out from the front of its wings[phpbay] It uses this for climbing around on its prey[phpbay]
Small mammals vampire bats have very strong hind legs and a special thumb that helps them take off after feeding[phpbay] They can walk, run, and jump[phpbay] Heat sensors on their noses help them find a good spot on an animal’s body to feed[phpbay]
The Vampire bat has two incisors[phpbay] Incisors are two sharp and pointy teeth[phpbay] It also has special saliva which contain an anticoagulant called draculin that runs down grooves in the tongue to stop the blood from clotting[phpbay] They drink the blood of other animals for survival[phpbay] They feed on blood from cows, pigs, horses, and birds as their prey[phpbay] Though uncommon, vampire bats even occasionally bite humans for blood[phpbay] Vampire bats make a small cut with their teeth and then lap up the flowing blood with their tongues[phpbay] If they can’t find blood for two nights in a row, they will die[phpbay] Well-fed bats will often regurgitate blood to share with others[phpbay]
Its predators are eagles and hawks[phpbay] Farmers are killing them because they carry rabies and other diseases, which affect both humans and cattle, but they're not endangered[phpbay] ♥
